Stag & Hen Nights

hen nightsYears ago hen nights were fairly sober affairs when women would get together to examine the contents of the bottom drawer and exchange gossip, with a bottle of champagne or a few drinks. Now, however, women are liberated, adventurous and often well-heeled enough to push the boat out in the most extraordinary fashion. It has now become passé to settle for a few drinks in the pub, most brides-to-be these days want to have a last fling before settling down to marital responsibility.

They will arrange anything from a train trip with a male stripper driver to a gambling get-away in Las Vegas. Here are a few tips for enjoying the perfect hen night.

Choose who you invite to your hen night with care to set the tone for the evening.

Avoid inviting your mother if possible and your mother-in-law at all costs.

Be careful about choosing an expensive night out if some of your friends are only just scraping by financially, unless of course you are generous enough to foot the bill.

Be prepared for your friends to make an absolute fool of you especially if there is plenty of drink flowing.

Nights of debauchery and male strippers are good ways to let your hair down, but mind you don’t end up walking down the aisle with a guilty secret!

Give yourself plenty of time to get over your hangover before the wedding.

Find a fun theme for your evening, such as a pyjama party or a 60’s evening.

A cool way to hen party is to invite close friends to a country house hotel for the weekend with perhaps a murder mystery evening to liven up the proceedings.

Other activities that you could share with friends might be polo, tank driving, hiring a train, chartering a yacht or even making your own film.

Never reveal to your husband what really happened on your hen night – that is if you can remember yourself!
